The American culture teaches females from a
very young age that LOVE is the answer to all things. We are told
stories of how a handsome prince will come from near or far to rescue
us from harm, love us for our beauty and goodness, and that a kiss will
be the ultimate in happiness. As we mature we read books and watch
movies about love and passion that make us anticipate the joy and
excitement that we will have in our adult love relationships. When we
marry, we have a beautiful celebration of our "eternal commitment" to
the man we love.
Then years later, many of us look at ourselves in the mirror and ask:
“What happened to my fairy tale?!”
This workshop is a discussion about the
expectations that our culture, and we ourselves, put on our
relationships with our partner. Be prepared to discuss:
- what your expectations of marriage were
- what compromises you and your partner have made
- how those compromises have impacted your viewpoint
- what change you can affect
- ideas on changes you and your partner can make
The anticipated outcomes of this discussion are to discover how your
perception of your relationship can impact your personal satisfaction
with your relationship, as well as generate ideas on what changes you
and your partner can make to get some of the fairy-tale happiness that
you are looking for in your relationship and life.
Remember, if you don’t change the script, the play always ends the same way.

The Adlerian Counseling Center provides
therapy and/or marriage counseling to individuals and couples that are
struggling with any type of relationship. We primarily serve people in
the cities of Burnsville, Apple Valley, Lakeville, Eagan and Savage.
Kelly Dial, your host for this event,
specializes in helping people that are facing mid-life doldrums, empty-nest
syndrome or general disillusionment with their relationship or marital
bond. Marriage and relationships are not usually the fairy tales we heard
as children, or the romantic comedies we see in theaters. Kelly helps
clients understand what their expectations are of their relationship and sex
life, as well as what each person can do to make the most of all aspects of
their relationship.
Whether your relationship needs a
tune-up or a complete overhaul, regular care and maintenance of is the key to its longevity.
